A Guide To Dental Implants
Whether through age, accident, infection or something unexpected, we can sometimes lose one or more of our precious teeth. If and when this happens, the team at Viva – your friendly dental practice near Lancaster – can help.
We know how important it is to have a smile you can be confident about, and we understand that tooth loss can make you feel embarrassed or shy. It’s incredible how a tiny thing like a tooth can have such a huge impact on your life!
The good news is, our dental implants – modern false teeth – can restore your smile and enable you to bite and chew as you did before, even helping reverse the ‘sunken’ appearance that can happen when you lose lots of teeth in one place. In this post, we’ll give you a bit of background about dental implants, and how they can help to replace one tooth or many.
A simple process
Some patients at our dental practice are surprised to learn just how simple the dental implant process is. After we’ve examined your mouth, and ensured you’re suitable for the treatment, we’ll then take impressions of your teeth to check the size and spacing of any gaps. Next, your tooth implant will be fitted in two appointments, several months apart, to allow for healing. The post (root) is implanted first and, when it’s fused properly, the crown is then secured to the top. Don’t worry – you’ll have a temporary crown to wear during healing!
An incredible solution
Tooth implants not only function like your natural teeth, but they’re deceptively realistic, too, as they’re matched to the colour of your smile. Dental implants are also made from durable materials, including a titanium post (root) part, which securely anchors the lovely white crown to your jaw.
Secure for the future
Not only do tooth implants sit securely in your mouth, but they offer greater security for the future. With multiple missing teeth, you could be at risk of bone loss in the jaw, which could lead to more teeth being extracted or falling out. In addition, tooth implants can help prevent other teeth in the mouth from moving into the gaps, which can cause problems with eating and chewing later on.
