White Fillings
At Viva Dental, we appreciate the importance of natural, healthy looking teeth for a confident smile. For this reason, recommend tooth-coloured, mercury-free fillings, created from contemporary materials and designed to blend in with your natural tooth colour.
What are dental fillings?
Fillings are used to restore cavities (holes) that have formed in your teeth, usually due to decay or damage. By closing off spaces where bacteria can enter, a filling also helps prevent further decay.
Why do I need a filling?
During an examination the dentist may find signs of decay indicating that a filling is necessary. They may also find signs of deeper decay on a x-ray or your teeth. The only way to get rid of this tooth decay is to restore the aestetics and function of the decayed tooth with a filling.
What are fillings made of?
Composite (white) fillings are made from powdered glass quartz, silica or other ceramic particles added to a resin base. This is a totally inert and safe material that has been used for many years on many millions of teeth around the world.
How is a white filling done?
Firstly the dentist will remove decayed tooth material and clean the area. After the tooth is prepared, the filling is bonded onto the area and a light shone onto it to set it. The dentist will choose a shade to match your existing teeth. The tooth fillings then become invisible as they blend in with your natural tooth.
Does it hurt?
No. Appropriate local anaesthetic is used (if applicable) so you should feel no pain.
