These dentures are securely attached to dental implants that are surgically placed in the jawbone. This provides a more stable and comfortable fit. However, implant-retained dentures are more expensive and require a longer healing process. How do dental implant-retained dentures work?

Unlike traditional dentures, which rely on adhesives or suction to stay in place, implant-retained dentures are anchored to the jawbone using titanium implants. The implants are surgically placed into the jawbone and act as artificial tooth roots. Once the implants have healed and fused with the bone, they provide a stable foundation for the denture. The denture is then attached to the implants using special connectors. This allows the denture to be securely held in place, improving stability and preventing slippage during eating or speaking.
How do I keep my dentures clean?

Removable dentures can be rinsed thoroughly with warm water to remove any food particles or debris. Next, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a mild denture cleaner or toothpaste to gently brush the dentures. It is important to avoid using regular toothpaste or abrasive cleaners as they can damage the denture material. Rinse the dentures again after brushing to ensure all cleaning agents are removed. For implant-retained dentures, it is crucial to clean around the implants using a specialised brush or floss.
Are they comfortable to wear?

Removable dentures are designed to fit snugly over the gums and may take some time to get used to. Initially, they may feel a bit uncomfortable or cause slight soreness. However, with proper adjustments and regular wear, most patients find that their dentures become more comfortable over time. Implant-retained dentures are secured in place using dental implants, and although there may be an adjustment period, they should also become very comfortable in mouth; feeling and looking like real teeth.
