Root Fillings

It is possible to use a range of materials to create a dental filling. At Viva Dental, we are conscious that many of our patients desire an aesthetically-pleasing end result and we therefore provide the option of white tooth-coloured composite fillings which blend in well against your surrounding teeth. White composite fillings effectively restore the natural look and strength of a damaged tooth and may alleviate some sensitivity to hot and cold food and drinks. Our dentists will be happy to discuss the benefits of the various filling options, as well as any alternative materials you may not have considered.

  • Save an infected tooth
  • Alleviate the pain and discomfort caused by tooth infections
  • Restore normal tooth function
  • Prevent the spread of infection
  • Protect the surrounding teeth and tissues

FAQ's

  • Root fillings are needed when the nerve of a tooth becomes infected or damaged. This can occur due to deep decay, trauma, or an untreated cavity. Our dentist will evaluate the condition of your tooth to determine if the nerve is infected.

  • Before the procedure begins, our dentist will administer local anaesthesia to numb the area. This will ensure that you’re as comfortable and painfree as possible during the procedure.

  • A root filling becomes necessary when the pulp inside a tooth becomes infected or damaged. The pulp is the soft tissue that contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue. It’s vital for the tooth’s health, and when it becomes infected due to deep decay, a cracked tooth, or repeated dental procedures, it can cause severe pain and discomfort. This is when a root filling is required to remove the infected pulp and clean the root canals. A procedure like this will help to save your tooth from extraction and alleviate your pain.

  • While an abscess is a serious condition that requires prompt treatment, the appropriate course of action will depend on the specific circumstances. Root canal treatment may be necessary to remove the infection and save the tooth, if antibiotics or drainage are not enough. If you have an abscess, please get in touch with our dentist to determine the best course of action.

  • The infected or damaged pulp from the tooth’s root canal system will be removed during a root filling treatment. Local anesthetic will be administered beforehand, then, once the tooth is numb, an access point will be created to enable our dentist to reach the root canal. Using specialised tools, they will carefully remove the infected pulp and clean the canal thoroughly. After cleaning, the canal is filled with a biocompatible material to seal it and prevent reinfection. Finally, a filling will be placed to restore the tooth’s structure and function.

  • It is common to experience some discomfort or sensitivity in the mouth following root canal treatment, but this should subside within a few days.

Fantastic

“I had an accident at work with a coffee table and ended up damaging 3 of my front teeth. I was able to be seen the same day at Viva dental and given a thorough examination. They were absolutely fantastic and really put my mind to rest. I have been back for a further visit since my initial visit and I’m glad to say that you really can’t tell that there has been any damage to my teeth. I can’t sing the praises of Dr Sabeti high enough. Thank you.”
