Having problems with your dentures? Are they sliding in your mouth, or popping out when you speak? Then our dedicated dentures trouble shooting post may be able to help.

1. Get them checked

If your dentures don’t fit properly, they could cause all kinds of problems. From irritation of the gum and mouth, to slipping out of place when eating or speaking, it’s crucial to get them seen to as soon as possible.

2. Adjust or replace

Of course, your underlying gums and bones may well change over time, too–which means your dentures may need to be altered or even replaced. Our dentists are highly experienced in this–just book in at ourLancaster dental practice to arrange for them to be seen to

3. Change adhesive

The adhesive you’re using may not be effective enough for your dentures–or you may find them difficult to take out. You might also have problems with food accumulating beneath them. In many cases, changing your adhesive can solve these problems. Our dentists can advise on good brands to try.

4. See your dentist

It’s possible that you may have a problem such as bone loss or a receding jawline. In these cases, intervention will be needed–such as a bone graft. Get in touch with our dentists as soon as possible if you think this might be the case.A shrinking gum line can also pose a problem to the fit of your dentures, and all these points listed could result in further tooth loss.

5. Don’t try this at home!

If you notice that your dentures are cracked or broken in some way, it can be tempting to try and fix them yourself. Our dentists stress the importance of seeing a dental professional in these situations, as certain products may damage your dentures further (for example, through use of certain chemicals).
